The registration deadline for <\/span>this year’s SUS conference, “Global Work and Play,” is less than a month away! \u00a0Now is the time to renew your Society membership, register for the conference, and book a room at the conference hotel. \u00a0Conference registration is due by 6 September 2014<\/span><\/span>.<\/strong><\/span><\/div>\n

The conference officially starts the morning of Thursday, October 23rd<\/span><\/span>, so delegates are advised to arrive by the evening of the 22nd. \u00a0All sessions will be held at the newly renovated Delta Montreal, conveniently located near McGill University and the\u00a0cosmopolitan “Plateau” neighbourhood, and a short walk from countless shops, bistros, museums, cathedrals, historic Old Montreal, and other points of interest. \u00a0<\/span>When booking, please use the \u00a0code\u00a014GISOCY\u00a0to ensure that you get the special conference rate of $145.00\/night. \u00a0<\/b>You can also\u00a0<\/span>reserve<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>a room<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>through this dedicated link:\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/www.deltahotels.com\/Groups\/Delta-Montreal-Groups\/Society-for-Utopian-Studies<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

This special room rate should apply throughout your stay,\u00a0even if you arrive a few days before, or remain a few days after, the conference. \u00a0All rooms and meeting spaces have free wifi so you can keep connected throughout your stay.<\/span>

Getting to the Hotel<\/strong><\/div>\n
Those flying into Montr\u00e9al-Pierre Eliot Trudeau International Airport (YUL) can get to the hotel by cab or by public transit (unfortunately, the Delta has no hotel shuttle). \u00a0A cab ride from YUL will cost approximately CA$50.00 each way, and take about 20 minutes.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Alternately, for CA$10.00 you can take the 747 shuttle bus from the airport to the Beri-UQAM metro (STM) station (45-60 min.), then ride the green line toward Angrignon until McGill Station (about 2 min.), and finally walk about 5 min. to the hotel. The 747 shuttle runs 24 hours\/day, 7\u00a0days\/week, but the metro has variable hours; for more information and hourly itineraries, visit\u00a0http:\/\/www.stm.info<\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
For those arriving by rail, the train station (Gare de train Montr\u00e9al) is located at 895 Rue de la Gaucheti\u00e8re Ouest, right by Rue University, about a 12-minute walk or short cab ride to the Delta Montreal. Alternately, on city transit, you walk to Rue University, and take the #168 bus (Cit\u00e9-du-Havre) bus north along\u00a0Rue University to Av. du Pr\u00e9sident-Kennedy, then walk about 4 minutes to the hotel at Rue City-Councillors (www.stm.info<\/a>).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
Please note<\/b><\/i>: \u00a0 Although Quebec and Canada are very welcoming to tourists, non-Canadians (including Americans) will need a valid passport to enter Canada<\/b>. Some foreign nationals may also require a travel visa.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Opening Reception and Meals
\n<\/strong>There will be a reception on Thursday<\/span><\/span> evening in the Delta’s ballroom following the opening plenary roundtable. \u00a0A continental breakfast will be provided at the hotel every morning from Thursday<\/span><\/span>–Sunday<\/span><\/span>. \u00a0In addition, we will hold our annual Business Luncheon on Saturday<\/span><\/span> at the hotel,\u00a0which is included in the price of registration.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Weather and Getting Around<\/strong>
Montreal’s metro (subway) and public buses run frequently and are very reliable, but it’s also a very walkable and fascinating city, and there are plenty of amenities and sites near the hotel. \u00a0Seasonal weather for Montreal in\u00a0\u00a0late October varies from daily lows of about 3 degrees Celsius to\u00a0highs of 15 (34.4 to 59F). \u00a0It’s a bit early in the year for snow, but nothing’s impossible.\u00a0<\/span>

We’ll provide you with city maps and suggestions for dining and site-seeing upon registration, beginning Thursday<\/span><\/span> in the Interlude corridor of the Delta.\u00a0<\/span>
